RAFFLESIA FLOWER  (raffle-E-zia)
Hidden within 300 sq. miles of dense Khao Sok jungle is the true King of Floral. With a reach stretching nearly 4 feet across & weighing up to an imposing 15 pounds, Rafflesia is the largest flower on Earth.
This weird parasitic plant has no roots, stems, or leaves, and is infamous for the repugnant odor it emits upon blooming. Description/purpose via Khao Sok’s website:
“They (Rafflesia) exude a strong smell – similar to the smell you would expect to find near a rotten carcass or a dustbin. The reason is that these flowers are not pollinated by insects seeking nectar; rather they are pollinated by flies.”
